A Trip to the Park

One of the best ways to occupy your kids during the summer is to visit a local park. Whether you live in a big city or a quiet suburb, there is always a good chance to have a great park nearby. One of the best parts of visiting your local neighborhood park is that it is completely FREE. Pack a picnic lunch, some snacks, and a blanket and you are all set! Slather on some sunscreen for safety and let the fun begin!

While they run, climb, and slide it will keep them healthy, tire them out, and keep you healthy too, while you chase them all over! It is a great idea to plan a trip to the park right before nap time, then you can almost guarantee an easy and long nap from your little one, too!

The park is a great place to meet some other moms that have kids your ages. If you are in a park near your home it is a great way to meet other kids in the neighborhood. If you are in a park throughout your town, it helps to introduce kids to other parts of their community that they do not know are nearby. Also, be sure to watch for special events at local parks. Many times your city’s website or Facebook page will advertise free events that they may put on. One of our favorite events is a musician they host at lunch time once a week.

This summer we have made a list of all the parks in our city and are hoping to visit them all as the summer goes by. It makes it a fun activity for the kids. We have found a few new parks that we have never explored before and some may be new favorites. Visit your local Parks and Recreation website and print out a list of all the parks in your city and start your adventures.
