Shoe Trends for Girls this School Year

Girls.. they love shoes just like the mamas! :)

I have 4 sons, so I don’t get to necessarily buy any girl shoes, but I do get to gush over the styles and the trends. My nieces are both 11-years old, so they “sometimes” let me help them with the shoe shopping, so I do get some of the shoe-girl-fix!

But the truth of the matter is, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from moms asking me what are the shoe trends for girls right now that are appropriate? Moms don’t want heels yet for the girls, they want sometimes very girly, feminine and VERY wearable.

Well… I’ve got 5 styles your girls will absolutely love! :)

1) Bold Printed Flats

I love these flats because they’re such a gorgeous color and such a gorgeous print. I love that bold printed flats are trending because it’s an easy way for a little girl to have some fashionable fun with shoes. Expressing your personality with fashion can be HUGE when you’re a little girl, and I love that shoes have easily become a way to do just that!

2) Little Booties!

Don’t worry about those tall boots, stick with the little ones! Ankle booties are trending for girls right now. They’re so chic and so cute. They can easily where these with leggings, skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, anything! I love the relaxed, and yet – appropriate feel to ankle booties for little girls. I think tall boots can be too much, this is the perfect happy shoe medium!

3) Glitter and Gold

Ahhh… very much like mama! Glitter and gold are trending like crazy! For some reason, I seem to like these shoes better on a little lady! :) I think these are so cute because these shoes just exude FUN to me. Plain and simple. They can be worn on “fancy” occasions or easily on the playground. If your daughter loves fashion, she needs some GOLD this fall!

4) Animal Prints

can I just say that I love, love, love these flats? Zebra, leopard, giraffe… they’re all trending this Fall! I love the simplicity, yet FUN factor to these animal printed shoes. Not to mention, how cool are they!? Total show-shoe-pieces!

5) Rosettes

There’s nothing like a sweet rose. Perfection. Beautiful. Elegant. You’ll be seeing rosettes on clothing throughout the Fall for girls, and I love how it’s being brought right into shoes and accessories. So adorable and so perfect for little girls. Roses are my FAVE flower, so I’m all about this trend and just think it’s the best trend yet! :)

Swimsuit Trends for Girls

When it comes to swimsuits for kids, I’m all about the boys. My 4 sons show up at the beach in the loudest, boldest, most colorful swimsuit I can find. My husband gets a kick out of it because even though they can be spotted anywhere at anytime (please, thinking of my 4 boys on the beach gives me hives!) they’re still trendy. Call it the mom fashionista in me!

And right now for boys, it’s all about Hibiscus print! I love it!

But what about the girls? What’s trendy for girls right now?

Here are 5 swimsuit trends for the little ladies in your life…

1) Ruffles — I love ruffles because they’re so adorable and cute for a little girl. They’re dainty and fabulous and just fun for a little girl! Seriously, my heart melts when I see these suits!

2) Polka Dots — I told you polka dots were going to be trending this spring and summer! I love this swimsuit for a little girl, it’s just so classic!

3) Colorblocking — Even for little girls! I love seeing hot trends for the “bigger ladies” make their way down to the little ladies! Here is a gorgeous colorblocking swimsuit for your little fish. I am loving the color combo here!

4) Flower power — Lots of flowers are making their way onto bathing suits this summer for little girls. I think it’s a beautiful touch and it’s very bold and very beautiful. I have to admit, whenever I see flowers… they make me smile. I love this trend right now!

5) Glitter — Sparkles and sparkles and more sparkles!! I love a swimsuit that shines in the sun, it’s VERY trendy and VERY beautiful. I love seeing the trend right now with glitter and metallic to add some extra shine to a swimsuit. I have to say, it’s very, very GIRLY!! (And I love it!)

End of Summer Trends for Kids

It’s the last week of July.

Seriously, I do not know where the summer has gone. I feel like with one snap of my fingers, it’s almost over. I have to be honest, it makes me sad… oh, so sad. I love the summer. I don’t like seeing it blow by so fast.

So… I’m hanging on as long as I possibly can.

Everyone’s talking about Back-to-School fashions now, and yes, this is something that should be the topic of conversation because school does begin soon. But! And this is a big but, there’s still a couple week’s left of summer… so I’m suggesting to go big and bold with some end of summer trends for kids. The best part is, these trends easily parlay right into Back-to-School.

Here are some of my favorites…

Tiered Ruffle Top… So cute for girls! I absolutely love this top. The ruffle and the tiered layers is such an easy trend for girls to wear because it can be worn with anything.

Printed Jeans… Oh, yes! They are super fashionable ans super cute! jeans that have a little print on them!

Rosette Ballet Flats… I love anything with a rosette! I love seeing these back in trend. These are great with jeans, skirts, dresses, capris… anything!

Denim jacket… It’s always good to have something to toss on when the weather starts to turn a little cooler. What’s better than a denim jacket?

Slip-on Shoes… I always have to tell my sons to put their shoes on! I love shoes that don’t require any tying. My fave? Slip-ons!

Graphic polos… Handsome tees (as we call them in my house) are such a staple for boys in the summer. I love the mix of polo and graphic in these tees. Very cool!

His First Tie

I know throughout his life, my William will wear a tie hundreds and hundreds of times. But there always needs to be a first tie, and that “first tie” happened this past weekend.

We baptized all of our sons this past weekend at once. It was something that we had been meaning to do for the last few years, but we decided to wait and just baptize them all together when we knew all of our family could travel and come see it. It happened to work perfectly on June 12th, 2011. My whole family was here and my husband’s whole family was here, too. It was perfect.

But it was the tie “thing” before the Baptism that first brought tears. I wanted to find the perfect outfits for my guys. I looked into suits, but in all honesty… it’s been too hot here for suits. So I opted for button-down shirts, khakis and ties. I got clip-on ties for my youngest 3 sons, but when I saw the same exact tie print in a “real” tie style, I thought, “Oh, yes… it’s time!”

And so I bought it.

But it was watching my husband tie it and adjust it that just warmed my heart. Every mom of a little boy knows this feeling. To see my son in a all dressed up, it just warmed my heart beyond anything. He looked like a mini-Matt (my husband).

I want to share this Fashion Rite of Passage with you.
