Creating A Bucket List

bucket list

There are so many things I want to do, places I want to see, and experiences I want to have in my lifetime. This is a mental bucket list…but it’s time to put it to paper. Then I have a constant reminder of my dreams.

First, I found a journal I loved. Find a journal or pad of paper that feels special to you. Something you can’t wait to pick up and look through. Then you just need to go for it…..DREAM! Write all kinds of things you would like to accomplish, see, and do. I set a goal of 100 items to begin with. That might be somewhat ambitious, but it really gets you to delve into things you have always wanted to do.

When I first started my bucket list I took a couple of hours to myself and just wrote down everything I could think of. Escape to a corner of your house, a coffee shop, or a favorite area in your town. Go somewhere that may inspire you. When I was a working mom we were constantly asked to create BHAG’s – Big Hairy Audacious Goals. With your bucket list, don’t feel like any item is too big, because you really never know.

Be sure to add to this list as you go through life whether it be yearly, monthly, or every couple of years. It is fun to look back and see things that you have accomplished on it, or things that you may have forgotten were on the list.

Have fun and DREAM BIG!

Dream a Little Dream…

dreamqupteRemember when you were young and would spend time daydreaming. It might be about an adventure you would take, a boyfriend you might have, or how you would love to redecorate your bedroom. You now watch your kids dream about whether they were a superhero or princess, what they would do with a million dollars of their own, or what the perfect treehouse would look like. They teach us a good life lesson…to never stop dreaming.

As adults, life gets busy and we don’t have the same amount of time to just dream. But, as adults we actually can fulfill our dreams. We can turn our dreams into goals make them a reality.

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” – Gail Devers

This is a great lesson for ourselves and our children. Our dreams can become possible. We should take time to sit back and think about what we want to do, become and experience. We might dream of a family vacation, a new home, more time with our family, or even something as simple as redecorating our living room.

Dream about it.

Decide you are going to do it.

Make a plan.

Do it!

Don’t stop dreaming and encourage your kids by example.

The Freshness of the “New Year”

I always feel like the start of a new School Year is more my “new year” than the actual January 1. It is a fresh start to our “organized” year and I’ve had several months of some down time to evaluate things in my household.

So, as I get ready this week for the start of school in the next two weeks I have started thinking about my goals and aspirations for the next year. Then in January I will review where I am at and what I need to do to get there!

What do I do to get ready for a new year?

I buy a new calendar. I sit down and enter all the important dates, the new school calendar, and any potential events that I would like to attend. Then I go through the papers I have saved over the summer and process them. I either file them, toss them or use them to put an item on my to do list. I also look at the calendar and try to figure out what activities the boys will be participating in for the fall and winter.

I make a bunch of lists. Let me run down the lists I write:

  • School/Fall Clothes that are needed
  • Fall Cleaning List
  • Honey Do items that got forgotten over the summer
  • Christmas to do list
  • Christmas Gift List

These list help me to write my goals. One of my goals this year is to SIMPLIFY. This pertains to how my family handles holidays, our finances, the clutter in our house, and the things we take on in life.

Now I have a plan and can conquer the “New Year”! What do you do to organize and start your “New Year” off right?
