Kid’s Art Display

Does it feel like there are endless piles of artwork and papers that come home from your kids school? That is the exact reason that I came up with this idea. Plus I got an awesome piece of wood for only 29¢ at my local home improvement store.

To complete this project you need:

  • scrap sheet of wood (if you want fancy trim like mine look at the back of aisles for a “less than perfect” bin of discounted wood)
  • Wood glue or Gorilla Glue
  • Binder clips of any sort (you can find fancy ones like mine at Walmart or decorate the black ones)
  • Command Hanging Strips or picture hangers

I think the hardest part of this job was finding a piece of wood I liked. Then I came across some great binder clips that matched my room decor. Here is my piece of wood.

The hardest part of the project comes next – painting or staining the wood. I painted mine black to match my dry erase board, but a stained board would be great too!

After the board is painted and has dried (important step, but so hard to wait), then you attach the binder clips to the board. I like to use Gorilla Glue because it adheres good to both the wood and the binder clip. The key to Gorilla Glue is that you have to dampen the area you are applying the grill and then it foams. Don’t use a lot of water or glue! Just a tip from experience!

Once everything is dry I then used some of those hanging strips to hand the board. I adhered it to the back of the board and then attached to the wall. These worked really good, but anyway you want to hang it would work great!

Here’s the finished project on my wall! I have loved this and although school is out  I still am using the clips to hang party invitations and other things!

Next week I am going to share the last part of this project. Did you happen to notice the “book” I have hanging on the large hook on the wall. This is a great project to hold all that information that you need to have at a moments notice! Be sure to check out my post next monday!

DIY Magnetic Board

Are you tired of your refrigerator being cluttered with papers? Or is your refrigerator not big enough to hold all of them? I have the second problem and have debated getting a bulletin board for our family. Instead of having to deal with all those little tacks I came up with this quick and cheap solution.

To complete this project you need:

  • Sheet of sheet metal (easily found in Home Improvement stores)
  • Picture Frame (these can be old or new – you can even spray paint an old one to freshen it up)
  • Sheet Metal Sheers

Once you find a frame you like you just need to remove the glass or plastic. I used a poster frame that I had laying around the house.

We then measured the glass and cut the sheet metal out in that size. You will want to use work gloves when doing this because the sheet metal becomes sharp when cut.

Once that is done you just need to place it into the frame.

You can then mount it on the wall just like a picture frame and add fun magnets to it.

This is such an easy organizing solution and can be used in so many different sizes. As long as you have a frame you can cut the metal to fit inside it.  I love what this added to our new “drop-off” center and now my son wants one to hang his favorite stuff in his room.

Did you see the great solution I found to hold my kids school artwork in the picture? Be sure to come back next Monday to see the tutorial.
