5 Ways to Wear Stripes this Fall

Stripes are still a BIG trend going on right now. It’s crazy, right? They’ve been trending for the last 3 seasons! I have to admit, I love seeing a trend transcend from season to season to season. It makes it easy for everyone to “work it” because you can just keep refreshing and reusing from last season! :)

As the Fall season is setting in… or about to, I wanted to share some different ways that you can wear stripes this season!

I must admit, I wasn’t sure I’d like stripes a few seasons ago. I never thought I could pull off a tee or a tank or a sweater. I always felt like stripes just weren’t my fashion best friend. Even though I’m still not a 100% recovered stripe-shirt lover, I DO love them!! I’ve been seeing them everywhere and on every thing!

Just remember, go with what makes you most fashion comfortable. You don’t want to overdo stripes, you really want to work them into your wardrobe easily and one-step at a time!

Are you ready to see some ways to pull off stripes and have some fun with them this Fall?

1) FLATS

Oh, yes! Flats with stripes. You don’t have to make them your fashion showpiece, just allow them to be worked into your outfit gradually. I love the soft stripes on these flats! So classic and so sophisticated!

2) Silk Blouse

Silk is IN this season! I am obsessing over silk blouses, I literally cannot get enough of them! I love this option right here. You have the silk that’s totally in right now, and you have the stripes that are totally trending right now, too. It’s a perfect match! Not to mention, nice and BOLD!

3) Jeans

You have to be FASHION DARING! I know a lot of people that are and I know a lot of people that aren’t! It really depends on your personal fashion taste! I think these jeans are cool as can be, but I’m not sure I’m daring enough. But… they are out there right now!

4) Cardigan

I always tell moms that they need a fabulous cardi in their closets! It’s just an essential. I love adding in a striped one this season. It’s easy to wear with jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses. I love the nautical feel of this cardi, too! Just an easy add-on for all!

5) Handbag

I love a handbag! If you’re looking for an easier way to add stripes in, it’s always safe to go with a handbag. It’s just the perfect way to get that touch of trend without wearing it all day long. I know lots of moms feel like they just want touches here and there. If this sounds like you, just add it on through your bag!

Shoe Trends for Girls this School Year

Girls.. they love shoes just like the mamas! :)

I have 4 sons, so I don’t get to necessarily buy any girl shoes, but I do get to gush over the styles and the trends. My nieces are both 11-years old, so they “sometimes” let me help them with the shoe shopping, so I do get some of the shoe-girl-fix!

But the truth of the matter is, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from moms asking me what are the shoe trends for girls right now that are appropriate? Moms don’t want heels yet for the girls, they want sometimes very girly, feminine and VERY wearable.

Well… I’ve got 5 styles your girls will absolutely love! :)

1) Bold Printed Flats

I love these flats because they’re such a gorgeous color and such a gorgeous print. I love that bold printed flats are trending because it’s an easy way for a little girl to have some fashionable fun with shoes. Expressing your personality with fashion can be HUGE when you’re a little girl, and I love that shoes have easily become a way to do just that!

2) Little Booties!

Don’t worry about those tall boots, stick with the little ones! Ankle booties are trending for girls right now. They’re so chic and so cute. They can easily where these with leggings, skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, anything! I love the relaxed, and yet – appropriate feel to ankle booties for little girls. I think tall boots can be too much, this is the perfect happy shoe medium!

3) Glitter and Gold

Ahhh… very much like mama! Glitter and gold are trending like crazy! For some reason, I seem to like these shoes better on a little lady! :) I think these are so cute because these shoes just exude FUN to me. Plain and simple. They can be worn on “fancy” occasions or easily on the playground. If your daughter loves fashion, she needs some GOLD this fall!

4) Animal Prints

can I just say that I love, love, love these flats? Zebra, leopard, giraffe… they’re all trending this Fall! I love the simplicity, yet FUN factor to these animal printed shoes. Not to mention, how cool are they!? Total show-shoe-pieces!

5) Rosettes

There’s nothing like a sweet rose. Perfection. Beautiful. Elegant. You’ll be seeing rosettes on clothing throughout the Fall for girls, and I love how it’s being brought right into shoes and accessories. So adorable and so perfect for little girls. Roses are my FAVE flower, so I’m all about this trend and just think it’s the best trend yet! :)

5 Fall Trends in Shoes for Moms

Sometimes it’s just all about the shoes. :)

This Fall there are some gorgeous shoe trends when it comes to the ladies! I’m someone who has quietly been stalking the shoe styles for Fall since early July. Fall is my favorite when it comes to fashion because there’s always such new and defined trends, so I’m just obsessed with what’s “hot” and what’s trendy. With shoes… we’re in for some delicious treats!

Most moms love comfort when it comes to footwear, and I can understand that. With 4 little boys, I need to make sure I’m comfortable, too.

But… I also love to infuse some serious style with that comfort. It’s not just about being practical with comfort, you can be practical with style and fashion, too.

Here are 5 Fall Trends in Shoes for Moms… stock up, pick and choose your faves and enjoy some serious shoe love!

1) Leopard Print

ROAR!! Oh, yes… Leopard print is very trendy this Fall in shoes. Heels or flats, you can’t go wrong. I love Leopard print because you can really make this shoe the showpiece. You can wear monochromatic or just jeans and a white tee with these gorgeous printed shoes. Your shoes will pop! Print is so hot right now, really amp it up and go for some boldness!

2) Polka Dots

One of the simplest and most classic trends is here to stay this Fall – Polka Dots! We’ve seen polka dots all summer on bathing suits, tops and bottoms, and now… they’ve made their way to Fall shoes! Again, heels or flats, you simply cannot do this trend a disservice. I love polka dots because anyone can pull this trend off, it’s just pure classic-ness. It’s such an elegant and sophisticated trend, one that is sure to stay strong all Fall!

3) Ankle Booties

Ankle boots are surely going to be a mom’s best friend. Flat and comfortable, but chic and oh-so-trendy. I love the added hardware on some of the selected booties this season. Wear these with jeans, skirts, trousers, anything! If you’re anything like me and around 5 feet tall, ankle boots will also be your new best friend this Fall!

4) BOLD COLORS

Light it up with some color! We’ve been seeing bright colors trend since January… oranges, pinks, yellows and red, well… this trend is not going away, even this Fall. Work the bold colors into your shoe wardrobe! Every mom deserves a FUN pair of shoes, opt for some color and some vibrance! I love a fabulous pink or orange pump! And if you don’t feel comfortable in heels, go for a fabulous flat. Just make sure you adding in some FAB POPS of color!

5) SOLID GOLD

Just because the Olympics are over doesn’t mean you still can’t GOLD it up! Gold is a huge trending color right now, for all fashion! I love seeing gold shoes right now because, I’m telling you… talk about a color POP! This is just fabulous for adding pizazz and fabulousness to your Fall shoes! I love a flat shoe in the gold color because it’s chic enough to be noticeable, but also casual enough to wear to school pick up or a night out to dinner. I love the sparkle of it… and making rainy days suddenly shine!

Oh… I know this well, very well!

My 4 sons all start school on August 29th.

William will be in 2nd grade, Alex will be in 1st grade, Ben will be in Kindergarten and Henry will be in Pre-K.

I can’t believe that everyone will have a place to go this upcoming year, it’s a little crazy for me (someone pinch me!).

With Back-to-School upon my family, my sons know that “mom” loves a good shopping spree before it’s actually time to head into school. It’s the time of year that really excites me and that I have a ton of fun with! There are so many adorable trends for boys this upcoming school year, the fashion is not just for the little ladies!

Here are 5 of my favorite Back to School trends for BOYS!

1) Stripes

Stripes are fabulous for boys this season. I love how classic stripes are, and I love working them into a nautical-like trend. I love stripes for boys because any little guy can pull off stripes. They’re an easy trend to infuse into your son’s wardrobe!

2) Athletic Wear

Athletic wear is a BIG trend for boys this season. Sporty looks prevail as a top trend and a trend that all boys will love! I chose these shorts from Garanimals to show you how simple and cool the athletic trend can be for boys. I’m telling you, my son William is thrilled over this trend!

3) Graphic Tees

I love the cool factor of graphic tees for boys. There are so many options in graphic tees that can express a child’s personality, and I love that about this trend. I love the graphic tees with positive affirmations (for girls, too!).

4) Bold Colors

It’s not just for girls! Bold colors are trending for boys, too! Grab come oranges and yellows and reds and wear them proud! I love bright and bold colors for boys because they are such happy, vibrant colors. It’s a fun way to bring in some pizazz!

5) Plaid

Every boy needs a “dress up” shirt. I love a button down for boys because they’re such “little man” attire. We’ll be seeing a lot of plaid buttons downs this season, and in bold, bright colors. I love this example right here. All the colors are trending separately on their own, yet all on this handsome button down!

Back to School Trends for Girls!

It’s already Back to School time for kids! It’s almost crazy as to how fast the summer flew by!

My own sons don’t start school for another 2 weeks, but we’ve already begun the fun part for me… Back to School Shopping!

Oh, yes. I love this time of year because I stock up on all the latest trends and styles for my guys. It’s also the time of year I spend the most amount of money on clothing for them, so I really like to make sure I get everything that they’re going to need for the school year, or at least… the first half!

Which brings me to the question, “What are some of the best Back to School trends?”

This week and next week I’m going to dish on the top trends for girls and boys when it comes to this 2012-2013 school year!

Here we go!

1. Bright, Bold Colors!

That’s right! Bright! Bold! Colorful! Vibrance! It’s all trending right now. I love bright, bold colors for girls because it’s such a fun and feminine trend. Any little girl looks adorable in some bright, beautiful colors. In my opinion, it’s just a true HAPPY trend!

2. Plaid and Stripes!

I love stripes and plaid prints! If you look at “older” trends right now for women, stripes are everywhere right now. I love seeing this trend transcend itself down to little girls. I have 2 nieces who just love wearing stripes and plaid. It’s a girly trend and I love it for the Back to School season!

3. Animal Prints!

ROAR!! I love this wild and carefree trend! It’s all about the animal prints and keeping yourself fashionably fabulous. It’s a different kind of trend that can work beautifully if you have a little lady into fashion! Match with a denim jacket and you’re off to school!

4. Embellishments!

A little sparkle and pizzazz on your hoodie! There’s a lot of embellishments on hoodies and blazers this season! Sequins, glitter, sparkles, you name it, it’s there! It’s a fun trend because it really adds some excitement to a plain hoodie or blazer! Such a cute Back to School trend for little girls!

5. Polka Dots!

Oh, yes… they’re back and they’re FABULOUS! Polka dots are (I feel) the perfect trend for ANY little girl. Anyone can pull off a polka dot skirt or top or sweatshirt or socks. It’s an adorable trend which works beautifully.

I love these trends for girls this season. They’re all age-apprioprate and just GIRL FUN!

5 Fashionable Last Minute Summer Must-Haves for Moms

It’s August.

Summer is winding down.

Bathing suits have been bought and worn. Flip flops have been used for (at least) the last 8 weeks. Sun dresses have gotten a lot of wear (and have looked fabulous!).
And shorts have been out and about for awhile now (such a summer staple!).

So what is left as we’re heading into Fall?

Even though all the stores are brimming with jackets, sweaters and jeans and getting ready for September, October and November… I’m still in SUMMER mode! There’s still a solid month left of summer vacation and I’m soaking up every single second, even on the FASHION side of things.

So what are some last minute summer must-haves for moms?

I could go on and on and on and on… believe me, but I am going to share my TOP 5 picks!

1) Fabulous Sun Hat…

Oh, yes. One of the most essential “accessories” for a mom! I love a sun hat because they are so fashionable, yet so practical. I don’t do the beach without one. The rays are too much and I just can’t handle it. So many women love a sun hat, but are afraid to try one. I say GO FOR IT! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer sporting a gorgeous sun hat! You’ll LOVE it!

2) Aviators…

I’m obsessed with Aviators. This is the first summer I’ve really ever worn a pair consistently. I always get emails from moms asking me for the best sunglasses to buy (and what’s fashionable), I’m telling you, it’s aviators! It doesn’t matter your age, anyone can pull these OFF!

3)Summer Scarves…

I love a summer scarf. These are so fashionable and just such a great addition to your wardrobe. Find scarves that are lightweight… cotton, linen, jersey, lace… and wear them like crazy! I opt for a scarf with a tank and shorts. It’s an easy way to change the look of an outfit, but (and the important factor) a fashionable one, too!

4) Maxi Dress…

It’s funny, towards the end of the summer, I always realize that my husband and I didn’t get to go out as much as we wanted to (you know, for a date night). There’s still time left for a fabulous oceanfront date! My advice? Buy a gorgeous Maxi Dress to wear! They are everywhere right now and SO affordable! Look your best and feel fabulous!

5) Shorts with Critters…

The good kind of Critters!! I love a pair of shorts with a little critter on it! I have shorts with lobsters, anchors, stars… I just LOVE them! They are so classic and so adorable! These are different, and not for everyone… but I’ll tell you what, they’re a fabulous fashionable item!

Best Trends for the Fall for Expectant Mamas

Everyone seems to be expecting right now, everywhere I turn, there’s a gorgeous, beautiful belly!

My sister-in-law just had a baby, and I had so much fun helping her find some maternity clothes throughout her pregnancy. I have to be honest with you, I was one of those pregnant mamas, who LOVED dressing up. I absolutely loved wearing maternity clothes and really taking in the top fashion trends (at that time) and making them work for my belly. I know not everyone pregnant mama loves embracing the bigger clothes, but it’s something that just needs to be done… especially as the belly grows!

I was just shopping last week with a friend of mine who is about 5 months pregnant for some work clothes. She officially cannot pretend she’s not pregnant anymore and needed to find some new clothes to make the next 4 months a little more comfortable. I couldn’t get over the AMAZINGNESS of the maternity clothing for Fall 2012. For me, it was like being a kid in a candy shop, the clothing was beautiful!

So what are the best trends for expectant moms this Fall?

I’m going to share 5 of my absolutely favorite and ones that I feel ANY pregnant mama can pull off!

1) STRIPES!

It’s funny, I always used to tell people to stay away from stripes if you’re pregnant because I thought it used to make you look bigger! Well… I was wrong! They’re hot hot hot this Fall. I am just loving the colorful stripe sets that I’m seeing. You can wear stripes with anything… skirts, jeans, sweats, trousers, you name it! It’s a great way to feel trendy this Fall and I love that there are so many different options in the stripe department!

2) Colorblocking

Just how colorblocking has been trendy all spring and summer, it’s staying this Fall! Personally I love seeing how this trend has been adapted to maternity clothing. There are a ton of different colorblocking trends right now for maternity, but I’m really leaning towards sweaters to make this work. I absolutely love the trend and LOVE seeing it with a beautiful belly, too!

3) Pink!

Oh, yes… and if you’re having a GIRL, even better! Pink is a very trendy color this Fall. It’s bold, it’s beautiful and it’s fabulous. Colors are very important this Fall, it’s a great way to make sure you’re really staying on-trend. I love the color Pink (even with 4 boys!), and I love seeing it such a hot color!

4) Embellishments

This is such a hot trend for girls right now, so I love seeing this for the “mamas” too! Embellishments on tops… sequins, bows and ruffles are so trendy right now! I love seeing these delicate touches on clothing. It adds such a fun PIZAZZ component!

5) Leggings

Love a good legging! And I LOVE seeing them back in action right now! When I had my son Alexander, all I wore was leggings. I am so happy to see that they’re trending again and even with some added touches… like the piping on the side of these!

5 Ways to dress up shorts

In the summer, there’s one item that many moms like to stay away from… (drum roll please) SHORTS.

They can be scary.

Many times shorts are made, well… too short.

And not only that, I’m always asked… “How can you dress shorts up?”

Truth be told, it’s pretty easy to dress a basic pair of shorts up. You just really need to know what to put together and how to actually do it.

I’m excited to share with you 5 different ways to dress up a pair of shorts. I’m a HUGE proponent of having some fun with shorts in the summer. I love to combine some of my fave pieces with my shorts and really bring out a fashion-forward outfit.

So are you ready ladies!?

Here we go…

1. Button down look with a scarf…

I love a classic, preppy look. Take those button-downs out of your closet and USE THEM! Have some fashion fun creating a very preppy look. I love a summer scarf, so I added this into my outfit. I just think it’s a perfect way to create a very clean and classic look.

2. Cable knit sweater with some jewelry…

The dressiest kind of short is a pleated short. It’s very popular and very trendy right now. My suggestion in trying to dress up a pleated short is to add a cable knit sweater and a bold necklace. Add some color and add an elegant sweater. I love a cable knit because it’s known as being a very sophisticated style. It’s luxurious. I think it’s a beautiful add on piece to a pleated pair of shorts.

3. Silk tunic…

Nothing screams dressing up a pair of shorts like a silk tunic. It’s just fabulous! I love finding tunics with bold, beautiful prints in the summer because they really POP. They’re a wonderful way to bring in color and some pizazz! The best part? You can wear any kind of shorts with them, I opted for a pair of white shorts right here.

4. Bold jewelry…

The bolder, the better. There’s nothing easier than tossing on basic pieces – case in point, black shorts and a black tank, and dressing up with some fabulous jewelry! I love chunky jewelry more than anything! Such statement pieces. Pop them out and wear them!

5. Cropped blazer and SEQUINS!…

Oh, yes… GLITZ and GLAM! Find a gorgeous pair of shorts and pair with a cropped blazer and a sequined tank! The perfect way to wear those shorts and really look over-the-top GORGEOUS! I’m addicted to wearing shorts with fancy tops, and this is the best way (and most fun!) way to do it!
