Your Inner Grinch

DSC05123As a mom I have a “grinch” moment at least once during the holiday season. Bah Humbug! comes out of my mouth and I am ready for the holiday to be over. Yes, its magical and the premise is uplifting, but with it comes all the other stuff.

the gifts…

the christmas cards…

the baking…

the wrapping…

the family drama…

the cleaning…

the over scheduling…

the excited kids that become naughty…

the mess…

the money stress…

It’s overwhelming sometimes.

My first grinch moment always comes when we are decorating our tree. It used to be about the lights, but now I do it about the garland. It just never goes on the way I want and stresses me out.  I have a moment and actually think about canceling the holidays. Do you ever feel this way? Want to cancel it all and go back to normalcy.

When I have a moment like this I need to walk away, take a step back, and change things. I simplify, cancel some things, or make things easier for everyone. Maybe the gifts don’t all have amazing bows, we don’t need a feast of several courses, and we don’t need to make 15 different kinds of cookies. Pick out the favorite things your family does and stick to those. Think about what you like to do and make sure to take some time for you. The holidays are not meant to stress us all out….but we have to make a conscious effort to not let that happen. I’ve only had one Grinch moment this season, how about you?
