Getting Ready for Preschool

Is your child counting down the days to starting preschool? This is a big step for your little one! You may be both a touch anxious and sad about your child leaving to be without you and filled with pride and joy for this new adventure. Trust me, they are feeling the same way! Here are some tips to help deal with everyone’s emotions through preparation!

Start talking about preschool. Most likely you may have toured the school and met the teacher. Talk about the different things that your child will be doing in school so they know a little bit about what to expect.

Buy Special Stuff. Have your child pick out a special backpack, clothing, or even school supplies. Make a big deal about getting the stuff because they are starting school.

Get their sleep schedule in sync. Summer is a time of later bedtimes and more spontaneity, but school requires a little more structure at night. Plan out a bedtime and start a morning routine the week before school starts.

Play “School” Think about fun things you do in preschool and act them out. Have circle time, music, or even “show n tell”.

All of these things will make the transition to school a little easier for your little ones! Make sure to take lots of pictures on the first day, make it a quick goodbye, and when you pick them up, plan for a special treat or lunch. They will be thrilled to tell you all about their first day!
