Scrub a Dub Dub ~ Having Fun in the Tub
By Kim Ross
I don’t want to take a bath! As my kids get older they lose interest in bath time, so I’ve been on the search for ways to make bathtime more fun.
One of my kids favorite things is having a bath in the dark. Pick up some glow sticks from the store and get them glowing. Drop them in the tub and the fun begins. I like to get it all set up and announce bath time. After all their grumbling it is a nice surprise.
Grab some of those foam letters at the store. This works for all ages. Spell out names for the little ones. It’s also fun to play letter guessing games on the tub wall. Once my son was learning to read we would put his sight words up on the wall. Now my oldest practices his spelling words. What’s more fun than a bath in alphabet soup?
When you are stuck inside play with bubbles. Bring your bubbles inside and play with them while you are in the tub. You can purchase a machine that blows bubbles automatically which is a hit for kids that aren’t quite old enough to blow them by themselves. It hangs right on the bathtub wall and uses regular bubble formula.
We’ve had lots of fun with bath crayons in the tub. We use these for creating fun pictures or even practicing our writing skills. There are bath paints available also which would be fun to try.
You can recreate some of your kids favorite preschool or daycare activities in the tub also. One of Connors favorite games is Sink or Float where he guesses if something will sink or float. We try all sorts of things for this game- an old toothbrush, the bar of soap, and other bath toys.
Ever think of playing with shaving cream on the tub wall? A favorite on the table at school that can be translated horizontally in the tub.
With a little imagination bath time can be all sorts of fun!

You are very creative with your ideas for bath time. I love the one with the lights off and glow in the dark sticks. Excellent idea for encouraging bath time.
