4th of July Traditions

When I was young the 4th of July beat out Christmas as my favorite holiday. I would always wake up early and we would get to the park by 9am. Skydivers and a ping pong ball drop always started the day at the small town event followed by games put on by various organizations. We would then attend the parade and head to my Grandma’s for a large family BBQ. The evening was filled with fireworks back at the park and then some smaller ones back at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  We did the same thing every year for years.

Now we have created 4th of July traditions in our family including a parade, fireworks and BBQ at their Grandma’s. We always have Red, White, and Blue clothing; just like when I was young.

The 4th of July brings out that little kid excitement in me. Whether it be the special outfit I wear, the snacks for fireworks or the decorations at my mom’s house, it still is one of my favorite days.

There are thousands of 4th of July traditions – Need some inspiration? Check out my list below….

  • Homemade ice cream
  • Decorate bikes/wagons and have a parade
  • “I Love to be an American because….” finish the sentence
  • American history lesson
  • Sing-off to American songs
  • Hang the flag
  • Have a block party
