Decide.com. A Shoppers New Best Friend

Now that we are officially in the holiday shopping season, we can all use any help we can get checking off those list items. As moms, we know this process all too well, and yes, a little help can go a long way. It doesn’t seem to be getting any easier to find just the right gift.

Have you considered how many different electronic gadgets are out there? There is so much to choose from, so many places to shop, so many offers, coupons and sales coming from every direction. And even if you know what you want to buy, how do you know which brand, model, feature or add-on is the best? What’s a good price? Should I wait or get it now? It’s dizzying!

Well I’m happy to tell you about a very cool, very helpful new website. It’s called decide.com and after spending a little time researching several different types of products, I’m a fan.

Say you’re looking to buy someone a new laptop, a new set of ear buds for their music player, or a new smartphone. How do you know which one to buy? If you’re like me, you’ve suffered the indignity of excitedly buying a new device, only to have a newer model come out soon after, usually just AFTER the return policy has expired. Yep, been there.

So here’s what you do. Go to the website and choose a product category to research (tvs, computers, cameras, gaming, etc.). It will list all of the products in that category, sometimes thousands of them. Then you use the sub-categories to filter the list by brand, price range, screen size, or other appropriate feature. Decide.com them narrows the results down to all of the products that fit your criteria and provides you with pricing info, the stores that are selling them at the various prices, reviews, even news and rumors about the products and deals.

And best yet, the site gives you the thumbs up/down on whether to buy now (prices will not likely drop) or wait (you may get a better deal or a newer model if you hang on). Oh yes, this is good stuff.

So after you’ve narrowed down your results and have decided what products you like, you can set up an alert to be sent to your email address if that product drops or there’s a model update.

And of course, you should consider the iphone app so that you have a helping hand while you’re out there braving the stores. If you don’t have an iphone, simply go to decide.com on your smartphone browser to access the mobile version of the site.

No more impulse buying when the salesperson insists that you need to buy now or miss out on the best deal possible. You’re way too smart for that.
